Lovefilm Instant (not impressed) & DVD's by post

Recommended Posts

I was sucked in by all the hype and switched our Lovefilm DVD by post account from 2 x DVD's a month for £4.07 to unlimited Lovefilm instant streaming for £4.99. This meant that we could use Lovefilm instant on our Smart TV, iPad, Kindle Fire etc 8) (or so I though) So, went on tonight to choose a film and there is pretty much nothing post 2010  Typically the £4.07 package we were on no longer exists to go back to  So, I feel rather stupid, we thought the selection wasn't great on the trial because it was a trial but sadly the selection is no better when you sign up in full. I am now looking at other options. Apparently this is standard for most instant streaming like Netflix because of film rights. Blickbox seems to be more up to date but I am going to go back to DVDs by post. Does anyone use Cinema Paradiso? as they look quite cheap and have a good selection.

You'll find leaving Lovefilm quite tricky. It took several phonecalls for us to get anywhere then we had to go through a string of people all trying to up-sell our package to keep us then another string of people saying 'are you sure' - it was like a comedy sketch playing out in grim reality

They are seriously the hardest company to leave that I have ever dealt with, we nearly gave up trying to leave and I can see that others would have! you could try saying if they wont put you back on the £4.07 deal you will leave them completely, they seem to have a big thing about not losing customers!

We now get films through XBox live as and when we want them and that works very well as with Lovefilm we felt obliged to watch so many DVDs and found that once the novelty wore off we werent taking full advantage of it

Hmm, all very unsatisfactory really. I phoned them again this morning and asked them to refund the £4.99 they have taken for the first month of Instant (streaming). They were not happy to do so until I mentioned the fact that I should be entitled to a 'cooling off period'. I was then told it would be refunded as a 'goodwill gesture'. They wouldn't offer me my old package so I will look elsewhere. I did point out that it is not at all clear in their aggressive marketing that the films available are so old. It gives the impression that it is the same as their disc service but online instead. Oh well, I'll put that one down to experience

I rang up LoveFilm just before Xmas to cancel my subscription (£5.99 per month) as we just don't use it. My debit card had expired so I owed a month's payment. I said I was ringing to settle my account then cancel. They transferred me to a lady who kept saying "I see you are not using your account to it's full potential" to which I kept replying "I know, which is why I want to cancel". All quite amusing, but not at the time :lol: Eventually the lady cancelled the owed payment of £5.99 and put me on a free instant streaming package for 6 months. So I didn't exactly get to leave.....

I have had problems with LoveFilm too - they are extraordinarily difficult to deal with & I think the choice is simply not worth the money.

Just before Christmas Sky sent me an offer of half price Movies (£7 a month I think) for 6 months,so we decided to try it,& it has been great. Got our moneys worth this month at least,as we have watched a lot on Premiere that we have been meaning to see :P
