Like it says in the subject, I am considering getting a cube and WIR (maybe Omlet WIR, maybe not)

I emailed Omlet about joining cube DIRECTLY onto WIR as the cube run is a limited space and would seem to waste space in my limited garden and they (very quickly and helpfully) replied as below

The Cube needs it's standard 2 metre run to join to the Walk in Run. This is for 2 reasons:-

1. It would be difficult to make the join secure without the run of the Cube and the chickens could walk out under the Cube.

2. The lid of the Cube needs to be able to slid forward to open it for cleaning and this would not be possible if it was butted up against the Walk in Run.

1.I've looked at the pics in the thread about WIRs - is there anything different you would have done with the benefit of hindsight ?

2. I notice that several members have joined Cubes directly onto run - have you found it to be a problem?

3. Can you attach cube to run or do you simply reply on it being too heavy for anything (eg fox) to move it ?

4. Any comments about Omlet WIR compared to more sturdy wooden construction? (Omlet WIR looks less 'intrusive').

No advice about attaching cube, but we are planning a wooden/mesh WIR as we actually feel this will look better. Have always had at least one clear cover over the cube run and figured we would need the same on omlet WIR which just look a bit messy so decided fixed structure done neatly was our best option. We are putting cube inside. If you don't plan on covering probably different - I know a lot of people on here love omlet WIR.

Hi, we have ours on the outside of a wooden WIR we used to have the classic there but have modified it to fit the cube now. It is on a wooden table which is made of decking boards so heavy and stops anything trying to access the nest box through the holes in the bottom. We did originally have it butting up to the run but have since made a wooden infil which is shaped to the front as we had seen rat activity and didn't want any sneaking in anywhere. We also have a lift up door which lifts up to accommodate the roof sliding forward when we need to clean etc so keeps it all secure to keep rodents out. I am happy with it as I like being able to access the nest box and poo trays from the outside. We bought the cube only without the wheels and bottom part which reduced the cost a bit.
