Replacing a non stick pan

Recommended Posts

This may be a stupid question, but I thought I'd ask it anyway!

BF has a very nice (and expensive) non stick casserole-type pot, but the base of it has had some scratching happen to it...the joys of student houses! :?

My question is; it is possible to re-cover the non stick part with something, or should it just be replaced? (I guess it's probably a no, but thought it'd be worth asking!)

I don't have any non-stick pans anymore. I've got through so many and it's my opinion that non-stick coating reduces the life of an otherwise sturdy pan. I used to worry that bits of it would end up in the food I was cooking, I'm sure I have fed non-stick coating to my kids in the past. They're pretty tough so maybe it was not a bad thing!

I find things don't stick that much. If I have a disaster I gently cook it off with water and then wipe some cooking oil over the pan surface, leave it on and then just wipe with kitchen towel before cooking with it again.

This even works with the wok.

I have had a couple of non stick pans that have lasted for years, which they will provided they are treated properly.

I really rate them, especially for students who might still be learning how to cook, rather than cooking instinctively.

Both are from John Lewis & come with a long guarantee, which I did use when part of one pan broke - they gave me another one with no fuss at all. Both are over 6 years old & as robust as ever, with no sign of wear to the non stick surface at all.

I don't think that non stick can be recovered once it is badly damaged.
