it could be a thin shelled egg but more likely and egg at the end of a laying cycle I've got a couple that lay one like that about every 7 - 10 eggs depending on who laid it you might find she has a day or two off to reset the system. there the eggs that get rejected at the grading stage in a commercial egg plant there nowt wrong with them they just don't look right. I like to include a few in any display I do just to show folk what real eggs look like and what gets rejected

Any ideas what caused this....?

 

I seem to remember reading that the blue colour is just on the outer surface of the egg shell? In which case, perhaps the egg went through Connie's shell gland a bit too quick for the last bit to have the colour laid down on the shell? I think sudden surprises can cause this, like a loud airplane going overhead!
