beach chick
this morning I found a soft shelled egg fallen through the bars in the nesting box. just now I found a blob of what looked like egg white on the grass, no yolk or anything, about a couple of inches away from a very dark brown poo (sorry, TMI!) they have grit in their water and I just added some to their layers pellets. they all look totally healthy, bright eyes, good combs, pottering about very happily. they were semi freerange til yesterday (run and omlet fencing), could the suden change be something to do with the change of lifestyle, access to wider range of plants/bugs etc? on the plus side, they all put themselves to bed properly last night, and both 'good' eggs today were in the nesting box. thanks in advance for any advice. Jules.
I don't know what the matter is, sorry, but in my experience when our girls have laid softies they are never in the nesting box, always on the roosting bars, in the run or in the garden, depending where they are at the time. chocchick
I wouldn't be concerned about one strange egg, you sometimes get blips. They do sometimes lay less well if they fill up on grass/plants etc. Did it have a shell of any type with the egg white? There's a sticky with some pictures of eggs somewhere on the forum. http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4720
kannie
I was just going to comment that odd things are normal when they're new to laying, beach chick, and then I noticed from your signature that Mercedes has laid her first egg in the future! Or is this a prediction?
