Do you know if chickens eat comfrey? I have a comfrey plant that I want to plant and have a perfect spot. Unfortuantely its in the chicken area. But would they just eat it and kill it?

Mine don't eat it, but they do have lots of other stuff to scratch around in - if the comfrey is the only green stuff they can get to, they might eat it though.

i think i may grow my single plant on then, split in two and plant one in the chicken patch and see what happens.

As it is a hairy leaf they might not be interested However, comfrey is now a known carcinogenic if taken internally and I believe there are guidelines on the length of time any topical applications are used which contain it or any extracts of it.

it's the one of the plants that the rabbits and pigeons leave alone on the allotment so You might be OK

Mine have never bothered, but I'm sure I've seen that you can grow comfrey to make hen feed, but i think you dry it first.

I hope you've got a strong stomach as the smell is terrible while it's 'brewing'. we used to have a couple of plot holders that use to brew it, a hessian sack full to a 50 gallon butt of water then leave it until the sack rotted not nice
