extra openings on a chicken run

Recommended Posts

Does this sound like a stupid idea

So I've decided where to buy the aviary panels from but I'm thinking instead of getting them to make an access point for the cube egg port and one so I my neighbour can change food/water without going in the run I may as well just buy two extra door panels.

I have loads of mesh left over from OH's DIY run so I could block of the bits I don't need.

The doors are £19 each whereas a normal panel is £14.00 plus about £12 - £15 for each egg port or food access

I always think extra doors/access points are a good idea - it gives you flexibility if, say, you wanted to section off part of your run for newbies or bullies and gives you the option not to get pooey shoes just to collect eggs  .

I have one main door and a stable type door for access to the egg port (leaving the bottom bit closed to keep them in). The the bottom bit is for their access into their freerange area.

Not a silly idea at all, I have two stable type doors, one into each section as I have inernal doors that close to make two sections. I also have a couple of little low down doors to allow access to grubs and glugs and to allow the girls out without opening the big doors, I am not sure I would bother with these if I had another WIR but the stable doors and internal partitions doors are great :D
