Farewell Banjo - worried about remaining girls

Recommended Posts

We lost our funky little chicken Banjo on Fri. Didn't notice anything untoward, but on Fri she was puffed up an her wings were down, not a happy girl. Took her to the vets and they kept her in. She was put in an oxygen tent as by the time we got to the vets she was gasping for breath. They took X-rays and it was decided that due to it showing lung damage it would be kinder to her to be PTS. She was so skinny, and we were told that she would've hidden any sign of illness being a prey animal.

We disinfected their eglu and scrubbed their glug and grub.

Yesterday Aggie seemed out of sorts so another visit to the vet, we took Mac as well to be on the safe side. They have both now been given broad spectrum anti biotics and chemical wormer. The vet said that when they looked at the X-ray from Banjo they thought it was some sort of virus

Aggie still seems out of sorts, though she is still eating etc and I'm wondering if there is anything else we can do to help her fight if she has got what Banjo had. The vet has said that its just a waiting game, but I'd like to help their odds.

It's heartbreaking and I don't want to loose my remaining girls.

Any advice is appreciated.....

Sorry for your loss :( RIP Banjo.

You could try a few things to help...well it can't hurt!! :D Lifeguard tonic to add to their drinking water is a great boost. Also, nutridrops by nettex, if them seem off their food (it's great for stimulating appetite and full of good things!) Maybe bringing your girls in at night (in a cool room) in a cat carrier or similar?? Just as it's SO cold and they use energy to keep warm!!!

Really, just keep an eye on them and check their crops nightly to make sure they are eating. Let's hope for a good result and warmer weather!!!! Keep us posted and best wishes :)

Just thought I'd put on an update.

Got home tonight and my girls are looking 'normal' well as normal as they get

Added the tonic to their water and nearly keeled over laughing watching the OH trying to catch them to give them some nutri drops. It's not until they're better that you realise how ill they must've been.

Can't thank you enough for your advice and wishes, just wish we hadn't had to loose little Banjo (white chicken) in the process.
