araucana egg - colour?

Recommended Posts

Ah, now i read that they could lay various shades between blue and green - but not white! (or cream)

She's a fabulous hen, but I shall be a bit disappointed if I don't get blue eggs

(although I guess that's always an excuse for morehens  )

She's a 'full size' araucana if that makes any difference

Having done a lot of research in to this breed a TRUE araucana (LF or bantam)should lay a blue egg :D

that is what i thought

I guess i could have a word with the seller - but I don't suppose anything would come of it - I certainly don't want to give her back!

Have just stood outside nesting box while she laid an egg so I could be sure - definitely a creamy-beige coloured egg with no hint of blue or green.

She's a fabulous personality, so I'm not disappointed I got her, but was really looking forward to blue eggs

I thought this too! My bantam Araucana hatched out of a batch of LF Maran eggs  She does have white ear lobes though, you are supposed to be able to tell the colour of the shell by the colour of the hen's earlobes.

I spoke to the sellers who said they'd never heard of this and are completely flummoxed.

They did ask what I wanted to do, but of course I didn't want to return her.

I can see this will lead to me getting another blue egg laying hen or two later in the year...

I got her from Mini Meadows - just over the Leics/northants border

They said they'd never heard of this before.

The outcome was that they have offered me some kind of 'deal' on future purchases, but not specified what that would be.

Perhaps I shouldn't have said so quickly that I didn't want to return her!

She's truly fabulous and laying a very classy creamy-beige egg most days

If you were considering them you might mention my experience (happy to give you my name etc in a PM) and get a hen that's already laid a !eggblue! !

This is poppy investigating the old compost heap (a few weeks ago). She's less grubby now! and has a darker comb (she wasn't laying at this point)

I'll try and get a new pic of her tomorrow

New Pics of Poppy :)

She's not terribly keen on having her picture taken - a waste of good running around squawking madly time!
