Understanding the pecking order

Recommended Posts

Can you have 2 top birds ?

Myrtle and Melody never ever peck each other, but they both peck my other four, and sometimes very visciously.

Even with their beak rings they still manage to man handle the others.

Suzie is broody and in the dog crate in the run, she popped her head through the bars and got pecked.

When they dust bath it is often in a group of 2 and 4.

They don't share the treats very nicely.

I'm seriously wondering what to do with them - they need ASBO's or restraining orders

I find top chicken usually has her sidekick who will wade in to back up top chicken whenever she can! One of them will usually be the first to pounce on an underling, so will probably be top hen. My two are Stanley (Bluebelle) and Emily PP Stanley (now renamed Manly Stanley) is definitely top hen. Emily is her best buddy who helps to reinforce her power! Before these two, it was Big Black Bertha PP and Beryl GNR was her sidekick.
