Poo help please!

[nanarock]

My friend contacted me to say a fox managed to kill all 6 of her chickens by ripping out the poo trays on her locked up eglu cube. Somehow it managed to kill and take 2 chickens and leave the remaining 4. This is the 3rd time this fox has killed her chickens and she has replaced them, but the 1st time it has broken into the cube. One clever fox.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I have a fiddle to undo the pootray clips at times on my cubes...and I have 3...her fox must be a canny beast indeed!

I also was foxed yesterday, so am not a fox-lover by any stretch of the imagination...

RiP all lost girls x

Are you sure it wasn't a stoat, weasel or mink? Whatever it was so sorry to hear of chicken deaths.

[Daphne]

Very sorry to hear of both your losses

I think they are very active right now, I managed to rescue one of my girls from the mouth of a particularly glossy and well fed fox a couple of weeks ago. It was inside my electric netting and ran off through it (no holes) so they are determined, presumably with cubs to feed.

I don't trust the trays of the cube so have placed a heavy feed bin behind the cube to block the trays coming out. There is a fox den (on neighbour's property) about 10 metres from the cube.

There is now a doubt as to whether the poo trays were clicked into place properly. The sad thing is she is not getting any more chickens for a while.

I wondered about that. If they are in place it is difficult for me to pull them out without releasing them underneath, and I don't think a fox would be able to do it. But if the catch is bent or it isn't pushed in till it clicks then it's easy.

Hope she regains her enthusiasm.
