Humidity advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi, am in need of some advice re humidity....

We have successfully hatched out using a borrowed Brinsea 20 once before (13 out of 13 hatched ) I realise now how lucky we were as it was a little tricky to manually make temperature adjustments and it was guess work re humidity.

I now work at my son's school and was approached by the year 5 teachers to hatch some eggs. As we would need to keep the eggs turning evenings and weekends my DH agreed that we could buy our own Brinsea Octogan 20 Advance. We test ran it, set it up at school and set a selection of eggs yesterday.

Having spent many hours on this forum reading and noting down advice I planned to run it dry as I did before but it was reading humidity as naturally 23-26%. This worried me so I added a trickle of water, it rose to 34% I relaxed

24 hrs later humidity back down to 26%. Will this be a problem or am I better off topping it up every day or so? To maintain 30-35%

If I was at home I'd be a little more relaxed but am feeling a little under pressure with 60 children (and all the staff) talking about the eggs and the potential chicks!!

I should also mention that we have set the automatic cooling setting for an hour a day... Would this affect the humidity?

Any advice much appreciated

Jo

When I had my my Brinsea 20 dx? (now downsized now to a 7/12) I was advised by Redwing (super hatcher extrordinaire) to run it dry till day 18 then put water in the 2 troughs in the bottom when I stopped the turning and have the hatch door half shut.

Didn't have the cooling thingy so don't know. Mine was the previous auto model.
