well it is day 4 and unfortunatly on opening the duck coop this morning one of the ducklings has died so the total is 9 at the moment . I am not sure if the mother duck accidently knocked the duckling out of the nest or it got stuck

and couldnt get under her to keep warm ..

can any one tell me how you sex ducklings and at what age can you tell the sex ????

Hi welcome to the forum what a shame about your little duckling mum maybe stepped on it by mistake could have been anything i can normally sex my ducks by 8 weeks and yes youve done the right thing by removing the drake they are beasts mine tried to tread an 8 week old duckling before but i managed to catch him before he did you wont beable to put the ducklings in with your drake until they are at least 16 weeks old he wont be fussy how old or what sex they are the reason i dont like drakes mine is now 7 so not as rampant as he was but still quite bad leanne

Thanks for your reply glad to hear i did the right thing removing the drake .

9 little ducklings still going strong the mother duck seems well too hopefully I wont loose anymore.

They are just the sweetest things to watch . can i ask you another question when can i give them water for swimming they have a small bowl for drinking but they keep getting in it and knocking it over ..

Hi mine go in the water at about 2 days something like a paint roller tray so they can get in and out easy leanne

Ok will give that a try at the weekend .I will try and put some pictures on at the weekend if I can work out how to do it this is all a bit new to me.
