Omlet cube and run

My wee annette must be coming up for 9 months old but she has never laid an egg. There was a brief period when she would go into the nest box as if to attempt, but I haven't even seent hat for a while.... She is a bit special - blind in one eye, occassionally goose steps - and we don't mind if she doesn't, but it niggles at me in case there is something wrong..... DO some chickens just not bother?

A friend of mine has had three for a year, all sold as POL, but the last one only started laying this month. Hopefully Annette will follow her lead.

Hiya, was just wondering how your hen became special?

 

We have a white star (Willow), she's a very special hen she was pecked by one of her sisters and went blind in one eye and had a couple infections afterwards and with some medicine and research she's as rights rain.....

Willow does hobble around and instead of jumping the little step into the rest of the run area she walks up a big slab at the side and gets up that way...

At first she stopped laying I think because of the trauma of what happened and then after a little while we had a lovely little white egg waiting for us in the nesting box

 

Even though she isn't POL as is yours ( good_egg ) I just wanted to share our special hens little story with you and I think that in time and at there own speed they will follow suit and start to lay

Thanks for your posts! I was hopeful for an egg a while back as she kept going into nest box, but nothing transpired. Then I was quite glad when she stopped as I had a hen before who laid internally and I was beginning to worry. She occasionally potters up the ladder if someone else is in there, but seems to be just to say hi.

 

We don't know what happened to her eye johnandkimberley - no story like your little willow poor thing. Isn't it lovely when they recover though. We got Annette very young; breeder actually worried as she realised how young she was and phoned, think she was only just off heat and had muddled herself in with the bigger ones. But it had been a bit of a traumatic chicken weekend and we were attached so just spoilt all 4. Noticed her eye the next week - it's got a tiny pupil and is a greeny grey colour. No signs of trauma. Panic initially invade Mareks but that was almost a year ago and no other signs. She is a funny wee thing - still acts like a chick and burrows under Dot with her head when they sunbathe, sleeps under Buffy and gets left behind then runs after the others like a lunatic. Very lovable, but aren't they all!

 

Will let you know if anything changes. It's nice to hear stories of other special hens and eventual eggs as I do so want a dark brown one.
