Would I be mad to .............

Recommended Posts

Make another jumper from my Eco wool pattern but using a different yarn.

The Eco wool knits at 16st and 22 rows to 10cm on 6.00mm needles, I would like to substitute Sirdar crofter chunky which is 14st and 19 rows to 10cm on 6.5mm needles.

Is it possible to use the same Eco wool pattern or would it need radical altering (which I don't think I can do) or should I buy a new pattern?

Plum is right, you'll need to check how it knits up with a test square, otherwise the jumper will knit ok but it won't come out at the right size. Two stitches doesn't sound much but for example if your pattern has 112 stitches, that would come up at 70 cm in the Eco but 80 cm in the Sirdar wool. Length isn't always such a problem as often the shaping is in the first few rows and then it says 'knit to desired length'.

You might find using a smaller needle will reduce the size enough ... I am not a knitting expert, but usually the pattern-writer has tested it out to work with a particular type of wool. It would be really frustrating to knit 2/3 of a jumper and then find it wasn't going to fit!
