Chicken boarders

..........well, walk into it without treading on 6 overly friendly ex-bats??!!

 

Until they are trained to the treat bowl so that I know I can get them back into the run, I don't want them escaping but as soon as they see me by the door, they run to greet me (which is nice) but not helpful.

 

I have had OH lure them to the far end - but this has limited success.

How about rigging up something temporary across the doorway that you could step over but they'd have to work out how to jump over? A bit of netting or trellis, for example?

Maybe.

There is a 30cm kickboard to step over - they have been jumping onto the eglus and falling off because they can't grip !!

They are lovely girls but I can tell they are going to be 'trouble'!

I have a 'stable' door so I open the top and chuck a very small handful of corn - or any veg peelings I'm giving them, say, to the back of the run to get them out of the way while I open the door. If I did it again I'd have the door opening inwards rather than outwards.

I am the same as Olly, got OH to cut door in half so now have a stable door. I can lean right in and fill water and feeders without the little darling escaping.

dont worry... it wont be a problem for more than a day or so. mealworms win them over every time
