Advice/opinions...ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hi All! :D

Some of you may have been following my story of Florence my pekin bantam hen who was very poorly recently....well she is still with us and really very well :D BUT the soft shelled egg issue is if anything getting worse! :( On fri am she went to the nest box and then let me know she had laid but all I found was some yolk over the pop hole in to the cube next box and the rest of the yolk stuck to her fluffy knickers!!! :( She had to have a bath asap! She hadn't laid anything for a couple of days previous and so I was hopeful of a hard shelled egg  I have been adding codliver oil to their evening corn to coat it with a sheen. Also I have managed to get a hold of some limestone flour.....but was unsure of how much to add to food and should she only get it as the others seem fine?(when NOT broody :doh: )

Well hubby and I are away for the coming weekend (21st wedding anniversary! :D ) I'm a bit worried about leaving my eldest (he's 19 and very helpful with the girls!)in charge of the hens, what with 2 broody and another on her way .....and dear Florence and her issues :wall:

Does anyone have any experience which might shed light??? Or really is the kindess thing for her to be PTS? I'm worried she will never be right and it's a problem waiting to happen...Martha was trying to eat the yolk from her bottom before I could bath her!!!!Also I was home as it was my day off...what about if I wasn't there?? I thought she might never lay again, which would have been fine with me :D

Any ideas/advice please.......
