jasperaliceuk
Is it usually for a chicken who no longer seems to be laying to still want to sit on eggs in the nest? My little Mimi, the friendly one keeps sitting. Sometimes there are no eggs, sometimes she's sitting on the others. She's not at all aggressive - I can stroke her and remove eggs so I assume she's not broody. Sue
LottyJ1
I have had hens that do that - not broody just go and sit on another hens egg. Not a problem at all unless they are internally laying.
Lavenders_Blue
Yes I've had hens do this too. In fact the most recent hen to do it I thought actually was laying until we lost her, and found we were still getting the same number of eggs per day. Turns out my old ex batt, Bella (who we thought had long since stopped laying) is still laying most days! What a trooper!
jasperaliceuk
Reassuring, but I hope she isn't internally laying! She seems really healthy and happy - we have had 3 lashes from her but no sign of being under the weather since. Sue
Chicken deficient
My little Pekins, (queens of broodiness), are never aggressive towards me when they are broody, even if sitting on eggs. My silver laced Wyandotte bantam on the other hand, would quite happily take my arm off, shred it and stir fry it whilst I bled to death. I hope your hen is ok. I had an internal layer, (rip Violet ). She still went into the nest box to try to lay and would sit there for a while, but it was not like being broody, where they sit in there 23 3/4 hours a day for 3 weeks!
