No eggs and bright green poo

Recommended Posts

Hi I've searched the topics but can't find any that match my query so sorry if this has been answered lots of times

Ruby my heritage skyline who is approx 22weeks old started laying little blue eggs a few weeks ago that had started getting bigger but I noticed for a few days she hasn't layed at all and I noticed today that she has bright green watery poo (not diarrhoea)

Is this syptoms of a impacted/sour crop as she is drinking and eating fine because she's new I haven't really handled her a lot so she's a nightmare to get hold of I'm going to check her crop tomorrow am I right in thinking if its soft and squishy then it could be sour and if its firm/hard then it could be impacted but when I've checked the other girls crops those crops felt quite firm this may sound stupid but how firm would it be for an impacted crop?

Thanks for any advice you can give

If it doesn't go down overnight then its impacted. If you check first thing in the morning - probably best to shut them in at this time of year then check before you let them out so you don't have to get up super early. It is also easier to lift them out to check when sleepy if they are flighty - we have one wee flighty one we have to trick with food and then grab her. Check her tummy too - think bright green poo can be peritonitis sometimes. Good luck.

Hi thanks for your reply

I've checked her crop this morning and I couldn't feel anything does that mean its ok and it emptied overnight? Also I checked her tummy and that doesn't feel swollen at all but I'll keep an eye on her could it possible be worms?

I was worming the older girls before I got the new ones (layers pellets with verm X) which was just over a month ago I don't know when the new girls were last wormed if I use the food with verm X again will the older girls be ok being wormed again do soon as I have no way to seperate them?

Crop sounds ok. How are her poos now? Has she been eating a lot of grass? Does she seem ok other wise - bright, active, tail up etc.... In terms of worming then you need to use flubenvet really - vermx doesn't get rid of worms. You can get pellets with flubenvet in or buy powder and add.

That's good then I haven't noticed any bright green poo today as yet

She hasnt really been eating a great deal of grass because I'm in the process of re turfing my backgarden so there's no grass there at the mo she seems nice and active, tails up and very alert

I didn't realise that verm x didn't get rid of worms I thought it was just a different brand to flubenvet so is verm x more of a preventative then? I'll gèt some from marriages which would you say is best powder or ready mixed with food?
