I have a small plastic drinker, of the sort you fill and turn over. The bit they drink out of is small, so an adult Pekin can just fit its beak in. I can just get the tip of my little finger in the gap, but not any of my other fingers, (I have quite small fingers). Will this be safe for chicks?

In the first fews days after hatching, it's usually a good idea to add some marbles to prevent chicks falling in the water. Once the chicks are established and stable on their feet the marbles can be removed again.

Thanks - the trough on my drinker is too small to fit marbles in, so I think maybe that would be the test to say it is small enough to be safe?
