chickenlicken85
Since day 1 one of my chickens has always made a bit of a snorting sound every so often, at first i thought she was sneezing but it really is more of a snort. I noticed her beak kept getting covered in soil and straw and she seemed to be scratching her beak on the ground a lot so me and hubby cleaned her beak up. Im wondering if she has something stuck up her nostril as shes still doing this, or could it be something else, any ideas??
Mrs_B
A few of my chickens do this, especially rubbing their beak on the ground after digging around for food from the ground. I never thought anything of it really - but I would if I thought it was suddenly excessive and the hen seemed distressed. Is she doing this a lot more than you other chickens? Is there any mucus at all? My instinct is to say don't worry as I have seen this behaviour but if you think it's just not right, maybe check with your vet? x
gavclojak
That's strange, I was going to ask a similar question, from day 1 one of my girls makes a kind of snorting noise and seems to have food debris on her beak, the others seem to peck it off and she doesn't seem distressed so i put this d own to being normal for chickens on crumb? Chicken deficient
It might be worth checking the 'roof of her mouth' / inside her top beak - they have an opening there that you could check looks clean and normal.
