massive poo's

Recommended Posts

Good morning

My girls seem to be doing a few massive poo's, generally first thing in the morning, during the night all the poo's seem to be perfectly '''normal'' but they differ greatly during the day, is this normal.

Also all the girls pop out as soon as i open the door in the morning around 6.15am, this morning one of them stayed in, she didn't come out at all and made her way in to the nest box, stayed for about half an hour did a massive poo there and then laid an egg, then came out, they usually lay between 10.30 and lunch time? i opened the lid of the cube before she came out today to clean it before work, i usually wait till they are all out then clean, could i have upset the apple cart i wonder? how strange? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Yes, mine do huge 'morning poos' too. Usually when they've just been let out, whether that's bright an early or a few hours later.

Laying time varies too; rarely before 9am, usually between then and lunchtime, but can also be in the afternoon - I have very unpunctual chooks!

Thanks so much, that's reassuring regarding the poos but was worried about her laying so very early:) i think i am not happy unless i have something to worry about...first the kids, then the dogs, now the girls....Oh Joy :wall:

heh - me too.

Before I got hens I thought I knew what I was doing, I'd been around hens as a child and helped look after them; I'd read everything there was to read about hens and have kept animals of various sorts all my life. Ha! I knew nothing!

They will do 'stuff' that worries you and seems odd all the time. Over time you realise that most odd stuff is just hens being hens.

But now and again they will still surprise you, or you'll get a girl with her own idiosyncrasies.

That's why this forum is a godsend! :)
