theherd123
I have a bed of red onions - Red Baron - and they seem to be doing ok but this last week i have noticed bulb shaped flower heads forming at the top of some stalks. The onions themselves look ok but havent quite bulked out enough yet. Should i leave these flower heads of chop them off?
Lesley
Hi Emma If the onions are not big enough then cut the flower heads and stems off. You may find that the stems are really thick and they will be the first for you yo use as they will rot quickly if you try to store them. Usually, any with too thick stems will be difficult to bend the tops over when the leaves turn yellow.
