I have 5 chickens which hatched on 1st July, they moved outside about 3 weeks ago and are loving it but they will not put themselves to bed! Every night they all cosy down for the night outside and we end up going in to their run and scooping them up to put them in their house! The first day when I put them outside, they were shut in their house for a few hours straight away before letting them out and I thought that would help them know where to go. Anyone got any suggestions of how we can get them to go in on their own instead of having to pick them up each night!

I find it happens with every batch I hatch indoor or broody hatched they get to a certain age and forget how to put themselves to bed for weeks then all of a sudden they start again. I got 3 broody hatched growers that are about 16-17 weeks old that have been on their own since they were about 7 weeks old there put themselves to bed for the first time in 6-7 weeks yesterday

Would the torch trick work? It has with my POLs and also the ones that I hatched last year.

 

My silkies are always the last ones to bed, it used to be my ex batts and I used to think it was rather sweet as they were using every minute of day light. Now I just have one left I think she just goes to bed when she fancies but always after the other hybrids.
