Thought I would share reference Myco

Recommended Posts

Was only saying to Chubby Chook last week how well my little flock was and then noticed Esme the orp was sneezing so separated her and my little pekin as I thought she was wheezing and made a vet appointment for the following day.

Well I could have cried in the morning as poor Esme was struggling to breathe, had yellow gunge all around her face and even inside her beak. The vet said as she was 4/5 years it might be best to PTS but I wanted to give her a chance so they both had a Tylan injection. In the meantime I spoke to Rachel at Hamble Valley who advised to get antibiotics for the whole flock and not to PTS as she could recover. I literally had to syringe liquid into her for a couple of days, she didn't eat for two days either but low and behold she is right as rain, no wheezing, discharge completely gone and eating for England.

Touch wood the others are all fine, they are on day four (of 10 days) of their antibiotics so hope that prevents anything.

I know Esme may now always been prone to Myco, she tends to have a heavy moult every year but wanted to just say its not always a death sentence. To see her now at the back door chattering away waiting for treats makes the vets bill worthwhile.

Im glad she has made a recovery just keep an eye on her I had a lovely little black Orpington bantam who had myco which I would treat with antibiotics but everytime she would get stressed if someone decided to pick on her or she would moult it would be back she ended up living on her own after a couple of weeks I thought what a sad life and for the sake of my other birds she was culled I was gutted leanne .

Oh that's really sad Leanne, I must admit I worry what will happen when she moults again, she had a really heavy one again this year, she was a rescue so I am not even really sure of her real age but it must be at least 4 years.

She is a really feisty girl, definitely reasserted herself today so I am not worried in that respect.

I guess only time will tell and I will have to make a decision then.
