Hello! What's this lump?

Recommended Posts

Hi omleteers. I was just giving the girls a pre Christmas once over and noticed a lump on Barbara, I will try to describe it....if you follow the breast bone down to just between the legs and I think just in front of the gizzard, on the bone is a small lump, it feels like bone or cartilage and the size of a petit pois maybe smaller. It may have always been there but she is loosing a few feathers at the moment so maybe I just haven't noticed it before. I checked the others and not sure if they are the same or not...they saw I was giving the a check and started to scarper...

She is perfectly ok in every other way but am curious as to what this might be?

Ah but Paula (jimnpaula) is cheating, she had a medical background:))))

It is just that I hadn't noticed it before and it seems quite noticeable, I was sure I would have noticed it but maybe not. Guess it must be nothing to worry about, I was scared she was loosing weight that's how I noticed but she still feels well covered.

Now you know it's there keep an eye on it, but I expect it's nothing to worry about, as long as she seems happy and healthy and well covered.

I do often wonder what the breed mix is in your ex commercial birds though, Hen Solo is quite a chunky thing with short dumpy legs! I love her light ginger colouring, she's dropping those purple feathers all over the place now with nice new ginger ones coming through.

yes its funny they are all the same.ie dumpy... they came from the same farm too, when I got them home I took two to the vets for the ivermectin and she mentioned how well covered they were for ex commercial girls. I have two very dark red birds and two very light ladies. but they are not graced with long legs.
