Jenthelibrarian
I have just had my girlies out in the sunshine and noticed that Tilly has a a sort of half-laid broken egg protruding from her vent. I am on my own here and just about to have to go and pick up my daughter from the railway station, which will take me a good hour or so, unfortunately. I had a quick read of the 'egg bound' advice - is a warm bath a good idea? Is this a job for a trip to the vet? When we get back there will be two of us to catch/hold her, but I'm frightened of hurting her or doing the wrong thing.
libby22
Hi. I had this with one of my girls however, she was bleeding at the same time. I did take her straight up to the vets and they put a syringe of warm water into her and shortly after the lot came out, shell and all. Do you have a cat basket of sorts? If you can put treats at the back of one of those, my girls walk right in - saves you catching her. If it looks well and truly stuck, I would take her to the vets - main thing is not to pull anything which may cut her. Hopefully someone will be along shortly who can give more advice. Ain't Nobody Here
Hope you've managed to get it sorted out by now? If it was just a broken shell, I would be tempted to gently ease it out by pulling (I did this once but it looked like a softy rather than a properly formed egg). Jenthelibrarian
Thanks for replies. Have spoken to the vet, who was very friendly and helpful. [Hooray for Hall Place vets!] A soak in a bucket of warm water hasn't done the trick, but she advises a little olive oil around her vent, a little something to eat, and to put her back overnight with Josie, as separating them can be stressful in itself, and see how she is in the morning. With any luck the remaining egg will have come away, if not she may need a visit to the vet. So: fingers crossed for our Tilly....
