JellyBean2605
Somehow, I've no idea how I managed to lock both my girls outside all night! I came home at 8 and as the Eglu is so close to the house I just leaned out of the living room window to close it, I didn't see either one of them! They didn't wake me up either so it was a big surprise to step outside to give them their breakfast and for them to be staring desperately at me from the run! Thankfully both are fine and are now crammed in the nest box laying their eggs. I can only imagine they'd gone to sleep in the dustbath! Mr Rhode Island Red
It has happened me once too. Sitting down to the paper at 11PM to remember to lock in the hens. I was getting them out of trees and hedges for about an hour. Resourceful little creatures...
Mrs_B
You're definitely not alone!! I have done this to my hybrids and I was so angry with myself, too. I don't normally close the coop, but I did on a huge cleaning spree and just forgot to reopen it. I have a dust bath with a roof and clearly my girls all huddled on top of there...but one must've been pecked off as there wasn't enough room and she had a rather horrible gash where the other's had got at her so she must have slept somewhere else All the girls laid their eggs in the middle of the dust bath - they lay very early!! x
