HENthusiastic
Hi guys!! Anybody know if I can cut my electric fencing without ruining it? I'm changing my set up and will have an area that's smaller than my length of fencing. Thanks
Redwing
Yes you can cut it and it should still work, it might not be as pretty as it was before but it will do the job. Dont discard any odd bits as they can be used to patch up any holes of join any loose bits Another option is to make it fit the new area by doubing back on itself (not touching)
HENthusiastic
Thanks redwing. By doubling back- you mean kind of zig zagging yes? Is it right that it shouldn't touch itself?
Eggasperated
That's interesting about it not touching itself as I've used mine with the excess rolled together, and, providing it is not touching the ground or the metal bits at the bottom, we've had no problems with it. Beantree
I wouldn't recommend cutting it as the joints will always be a potential continuity problem. We ran a 50 metre sheep net at 25 metres just by doubling it back on itself. The conductors were touching each other in places but we had no loss of voltage at the fence. Important to keep it all tight and off the ground though. The other important thing is a good ground circuit of course and not to rely on damp soil.
