I was doubtful about hemcore but I got 2 bags and replaced the bark chippings. I think that hemcore is great now, the pooh does seem to disapear.

 

I now lift the egglo and run off the spot and rake it all up and replace with new hemcore, this is about 1/3rd of a bag. I do this each month.

 

The old hemcore makes fantastic mulch in the borders, plus the girls like to rake it back on the lawn when my back is turned ! and I have to brush it back each night.

 

I'm sure they use it dust bath in as well, only when were not looking of course

There's no flies anywhere near mine yet,..... hope the flitrap starts working soon

 

There didn't seem to be much happening with mine for a few days, I went and had a look, gave it a good shake and it hasn't looked back.......and there is only the odd fly near the chooks now.

I've not noticed much happening at all around mine although there are less flies around the chicks now but they do peck them away when they can be bothered - I'll go and give it a shake now, the stuff seems to settle to the bottom of the water after a while

Might ring them up in a minute and ask, been trying to sort it out but with the stuff inside it it stinks so just want to get the thing up!

I bought 2 last week & made the huge mistake of putting one in the kitchen,which has a conservatory roof & seems to be Meca to Horeflies.

 

BIG MISTAKE!!!!!

 

It stank the house out within 2 days.We thought the cat had brought something into the house which had died.It smelt so bad I couldn't sleep!

 

The one in the hen pen caught heaps of flies,but the smell had gotten to me so badly in the house that I had to chuck it because I just couldn't stand the stink

oh no!! ours smells pretty awful up close, although I think that's the bait as I can only make out 1 fly in it at the moment which makes me wonder if it'll work or not as we have a lot of blue bottles here so would of thought it might of got a few more by now but we'll have to wait and see...

I have re-read the instructinos and it says fill with warm/hot water, I added cold straight out the tap so maybe that's why the stuff never really dissolved! I'll see how it goes and start again in a couple days with a fresh bag of bait

It is the bait that smells....like rotten meat!

seems like it's only me that can smell it, the flies aren't going near it they much prefer the chicken run!!
