Well, finally decided to get an Omlet WIR to go with our cube after spending lots and lots of money over the years and ending up with something not very good. This is our story

Bought an Eglu with run & 3 chickens

Bought an extension run

Chickens free ranged in the garden but got fed up of poo everywhere and destroyed grass

Upgraded to a cube with run and Omlet fencing (sold Eglu)

Got another dog who is obsessed by chickens and would love to eat one so

Cordoned off the bottom of the garden with trellis, fence posts and gate

Dog destroyed trellis, replaced with strong plastic trellis, used omlet fencing at the top to stop chickens flying out (after 1 flew out straight into doggies mouth)

Pigeons became a problem this year and we had flocks of them in the chicken area so bought pigeon wire to stop them and covered the whole area. Unfortunately could not completely surround the trees so intrepid pigeons found their way in and couldn't get out - OH constantly unhooking pigeons from the wire, dog constantly barking at pigeons

So, we have now ordered a WIR which has meant that we need to take down existing shed and replace with 2 smaller ones in different parts of the garden so that we have the space.

Anyone thinking of starting to keep chickens. Just get a cube and a WIR straight away, it might seem expensive but believe me it will be cheaper in the long run. I think it must have cost us at least £1 per egg

Your description made me really laugh - it is all so true! Actually even when things go 'right' we reckon each egg still costs a proper fortune once you factor in the basic equipment, food, treats etc. I hope you get on OK with the Omlet WIR - we love ours.
