xChicken04x
Hiya, we have had our chickens for just over a week now and they are all settling in fine. Iam a bit worried about Gemma though, for the past 3-4 days all we have had is huge double yolkers from her! they all weigh about 75-100g but is this normal? She is in the nesting box for about an hour each time and she comes out shouting to the world what she has done! Iam a bit worried that she is laying too fast and eventually get an egg stuck or get infected. thankyou for any replies! xx
Egluntyne
That is normal for hens who are just getting into laying. It will settle down. Just keep an eye though in case there are any problems.
Ladylucan
All my girls shout when they have laid an egg, i have told all the neighbours so they now know what the noise is, its as though they are so proud, but then saying that if you saw the size of some of the eggs, you would squark too, painful I personally wouldnt worry, just enjoy the double ones, I only have one girl that lays doubles and its not consistant, she may go a few days laying big ones, then she lays normal size then she goes back to big ones, and she fine, healthy and seems ok so far, Good luck x
