savena5630
One of my girls has been laying soft, shell-less eggs for about 3 weeks, and today I noticed that she was limping and trying not to put pressure on her right leg. Does anyone know what this could mean? Thanks
gavclojak
I guess you have checked for any obvious swellings? bumble foot is a possibility but is usually easily visible. could she have just sprained it? re the soft shelled eggs..how old is she? SueChick
Hi - sorry to hear you are having some problems. We went through something similar 6 years ago with very lame chickens due to a calcium deficiency. Looking back now at our inexperienced new chook selves and I would have to say it was our fault spoiling them too much with treats! Rookie mistake! Anyway we bought some limestone flour from a horse feed supplier and gave the a teaspoon in some mashed up tuna with some bird grit and it cleared up so quickly. Now if any of my ladies lay even a thinner than usual shell let alone a softie, I do the same and it sorts it out straight away. Hopefully this will help for you in the absence of any obvious other foot injuries/illnesses of course. Good luck.
