gavclojak
My lovely princess layer has another bout of egg peritonitis. She was treated several weeks ago and things looked good but over the last few days she started gaping when sitting again so a trip to the vet was called for. She had loads of fluid drained from her abdomen...my vet was astonished, she was expecting her to be very poorly but lovely layer hasn't read the rule book!! She was very bright, eating, drinking etc..,. Vet still thinks some fluid remains but doesn't want to push her luck, she is on antibiotics now and going back for another draining next week. I am thinking of having an implant fitted, I asked what the vet thought and she said there are no guarantees. I want to give her every chance, as long as she isn't in any pain...if I can give her another 6 months?? Any comments/opinions would be very welcome
jimnpaula
If she's happy and you can afford to treat her then give her the chance.
gavclojak
Thanks Paula, am a tad worried as she went into the cube about 6pm, I got her out and she devoured a plate of pellet porridge but gone straight back in the cube. She is usually the last to bed:( will see what tomorrow brings
gavclojak
Another trip to the vets for layer today, it was a follow up to remove the remaining fluid build up before having the implant fitted and....no fluid there!! Bless her, the vet was flabbergasted...princess layer really is a tough old bird....so the next step is to have an implant fitted,by his will be done next Thursday so fingers crossed she remains stable until then. I think she deserves the chance and if I can get another 6 months with her then I will be thrilled
jimnpaula
That's good news. My Crystal has suddenly gone down with peritonitis and looks quite poorly, hopefully the antibiotics will start to make her feel better tomorrow Also, Tequila (one of the new ex colony ones) doesn't looks so good either And Hen Solo has got worms, so obviously everyone else has too...... gavclojak
Oh gosh Paula poor girls, dispite worming every four months, mine always seem to have damn worms! What's wrong with tequila, poor girl, she did have a tough day on Sunday. Always something to worry about.
jimnpaula
Perhaps Tequila is bottom chook, she spent most of yesterday hiding in the eglu and chugged down lots of water once placed in front of the drinker. No obvious bullying but I think she's really nervous.

Claireabella
Hi gavclojak, how is Princess Layer doing after her implant?
gavclojak
Ah thanks for asking, she seems to be doing ok at the moment, I have to say she isn't herself completely, she still has messy knickers but she is eating drinking and behaving like a chicken. Her comb is a little paler than usual too. I will be keeping a close eye on her, thanks again for thinking of her x
