jasperaliceuk
Had to have one of my new girls, Clara the Speckledy, put to sleep yesterday. Started Saturday not looking at all well, constantly straining - so was expecting a softie. The other girls were getting nasty with her and constantly checking out her rear end - waiting for the bounty of a soft egg which has happened a few times when they were out. So, I put her in the Go by herself. She wasn't eating, but drinking. Yesterday afternoon she laid a giant of a soft egg but had a bloody prolapse. Got a vet appointment that afternoon by which time the prolapse went back in, but at the vets it did it again. She had a temperature and both I and vet thought it kindest to put her out of her misery. It was only likely to happen again. Once again, a favourite girl has gone and the prettiest! Funny how the two hardiest chickens I have are the untamest! All the nicest ones go early:( I think the fact she was laying so many softies was an indicator of things to come. Purplemaniacs
Sorry to hear about Clara. You did all you could for her and made the right decision but the hardest decision at the end. Chrissie
