PixieDust
Due to Sick Pob I have just been poo picking and keeping the coop clean but sort of forgot about the sanitiser for the run floor. We have sand on a water permeable membrane. Obviously some of the poo gets scratched into the sand and lost. Do I just sprinkle on some ground sanitiser and rake it in? I want to create a tool which I can sieve the sand regularly but my mind has been elsewhere.
gavclojak
Hi pixiedust , I hope your enjoying having your girls after your long wait. I use it all the time, just sprinkle a layer over all the run concentrating in the areas near the food containers. Don't rake it in just let it sit on top. I also use it on the top of the auboise in the litter trays, especially during the summer
mullethunter
My run is just soil / leaf litter. Once a week I sprinkle a thin covering on and rake it in to the top couple of inches, then cover the surface with another shake. Seems to work so far. PixieDust
Thanks for your answers. I was a bit worried because even though I have tried to poo pick as best I can, I know stuff gets lost and there is a bit of a smell. The house is very clean, though I will add some Net-tex tomorrow. mullethunter
I don't manage to poo pick every day now it's dark before I'm home from work, so a lot gets dug in by the girls. If it's wet the run does smell a bit by the end of the week but the Nettex seems really good at minimising it. I can never smell it unless I pretty much stick my head in the run. The Dogmother
I never poo pick in the run (life is too short ) Mine are on Aubiose over slabs, and I just sprinkle GSP in the run each week, and rake it into the litter. When I clear the run out, it gets a good sprinkling before the new litter goes in. It will not only keep bacteria and niffs away, but will also kill off intestinal worm eggs in the soil.
