Coccidiosis, sorry photo

Recommended Posts

There was blood in one poo in the cube where the seven month old girls live, all seem ok except for a little frizzle who is a bit subdued but eating and drinking fine and Ive seen her do a normal poo.

So, can older girls get coccidosis or I am just panicking over one poo? They finished being wormed with Flubernet yesterday, I am wondering if it was a bit harsh for the younger ones?

Many thanks.

Thanks Leanne, weight is fine, I saw her sort of fluffed up sitting quietly today several times and she didn't come rushing out to FR immediately with the others who were mental after a week of confinement. But then she came for corn, was scratching around and seemed ok again. I hadnt thought of the cold affecting her. Going to be keeping a close eye on her, you know that feeling when something is not quite right.

Sorry if its too much information, but just checked the girls and found another poo with what I thought was blood but on closer inspection it is like a blob of jelly and a cross between red and orange.

Now I can't decide if its just intestinal lining, bearing in mind they have just been wormed with Flubernet, or something more serious.

What do you wise people think?

You would think after all this time I wouldn't get so worried and worked up about them.

We had some like that recently Mollyripkim and couldn't decide exactly what they were. Like you they were wormed and they were still there. I thought shed intestinal lining but they appeared to be red jelly blobs the like of which I had never noticed before. Anyway the hen is absolutely fine, laying and pooing normally now, so nothing to worry about I think.

Chickens are generally immune to coccidiosis after 6 weeks, although I have heard of adult cases they seem to be extremely rare. Perhaps it was a touch of that and she has overcome it? Could always give her some probiotic yoghurt as a precaution.
