Cat tails
I'm planning to treat my ladies against worms next week. In the summer they were treated with a Dutch equivalent of Flubenvet by my chicken boarder. I also got a bottle of dewormer from the chicken place I got my ladies from. It's a liquid containing Levamisole-hydrochloride, similar to the Beaphar worming agent for birds. You add it to the water for two days and then repeat after 12 days. Unfortunately this has a withdrawal period of a week. My question: can I give the ladies some of the eggs? (Boiled and mashed up of course) I was waiting to treat them, until they stopped laying, so I wouldn't waste to many eggs. But the silly hens just keep on laying eggs. Beantree
We've treated our hens to scrambled egg in the past Cattails and they loved it. In our case it was an excess of eggs, but now we freeze them. Can't see the tiny drug residue in the eggs will be a problem for them unless that is in effect re-treating them and there is another egg withdrawal period? Cat tails
Hmmm... Something to consider. Although I think the amount of dewormer won't be very great in the eggs. Of course they managed to produce three eggs yesterday. But at least they get a good lunch today! They didn't really appreciate the medicine in their water. Apparently it's quite bitter. I added some honey to the water to mask the bitter taste a bit.
Cat tails
Oke, so at least one of my hens definitely had worms! Found yuck white worms in the poo in the coop, when cleaning. Brrr... At least the worming treatment wasn't for nothing!
Beantree
When we have used Flubenvet on known roundworm cases, the poos during and after treatment contained none at all. They appear to dissolve to a clear slime. What concerns me Cattails is whether the wormer you have used has been fully effective, or just dislodged a few? Cat tails
Hmmm... That might be a something to consider. According to the treatment, I have to repeat it in 10 days time again. Will have a look at their poos during that treatment and see if any worms appear in their poo. If so, I think I'll try a different treatment. I think Flubenvet and my treatment have very different active ingredients, so that might also explain the difference. Thanks for the heads up Beantree!
