Cancelling flights on low cost airlines

We're planning a trip to Athens in October with the airline that starts with E and has a J in it.

 

Having increasingly frail parent/in-laws and dog, I want to find out about cancelling flights in the event we have to change our plans for whatever reason. Their website isn't a lot of help & I suspect they'll just give me a link to the same T&C if I contact them.

 

I know they don't refund (although you can reclaim taxes) but do they give you credit and does it matter why you cancelled? Does it have to be the death of a family member? Is there a time limit on using the credit, if they do offer it?

 

They talk about "flight transfers". Does that have a time limit on it? Does it have to be the same destination?

 

Sorry for all the questions, hope someone knows the answers to some or all of them :) .

Yes, I thought that but they only seem to offer it for specific events, like an illness, death or jury service. If Riley suddenly became very frail or looked like he was close to death, we wouldn't want to go away but insurance wouldn't pay out for that.

 

That's why I wondered if E..J.. might give credit for another flight at another time.

 

Having said that, if we did lose Riley, flight costs would be bottom of our list of priorities :( .

I doubt a LCC would offer credit. I don't think you have to give a reason to why you cancel

 

I believe for the airline you are on about you still have to pay extra for a flight transfer, but I don't know anything about time limits etc

I believe you can change flights for a fee - so presumably if you were re-booking then you could do that and pay the fee. Why not give them a ring, in my experience they have been helpful. If you cancel due to the death of someone who was booked to travel they will refund the price on production of the death certificate, I know from experience. If it's a family member who wasn't travelling them I think you'd have to claim on your travel insurance but as you say, sadly that wouldn't apply to Riley.

I spend a lot of time booking business travel, and low cost airlines are the least flexible - I'm afraid that it's just how they are :(

 

If you re-book no sooner than 2 weeks before the flight, then most companies will honour it and just charge a transfer fee for changing the booking, as they can still sell the original seats. While they won't refund if you have to cancel, you should be able to claim back via your insurance company, but that does depend on the circumstances, as most of them have such tight contracts that they exclude most things :roll:
