bokbok87
Hi all, One of my hens has clearly lost some weight but is still laying. It takes her a few hours but she gets there on the end! Other than this she is her chirpy happy self. On average for a hybrid how much should they weigh? Planning to keep of their weights just in case!! Olly
I've never weighed any of mine. Life's too short - if they are laying and looking healthy and 'busy' then they're ok. Laying hens don't have a high body weight anyway - fat hens don't lay.
Monty14
My hybrids weigh around 1.5 kg. Most hens fall into the range of 1.3 - 2.0 kg depending on breed (my Orpington is 2 kg worth of feathers!). The really important thing is that the keel bone (centre of breast) is obvious but not too prominent. A really sharp keel bone with little flesh either side is worrying. mullethunter
No idea what mine weigh. I like to think I'd notice by sight and feel (for the Pekins - never feel the Wyandottes!) if they were losing much weight or condition.
