Stone Age Day at School - Costume Meltdown!

Recommended Posts

YS (8) is studying The Stone Age in yr 3. Came home at the beginning of the week with a note saying they are having a Stone Age Day on Tuesday next so could they please come in costume  Panic!

Note said 'please don't spend any money on this.. all you need to do is cut up an old brown t shirt or poss brown/black fleece dressing gown! Neither of which we have or would want to cut up anyway :wall: Agggh!

E Bay.....one meter of faux fur fabric later and I cut a strip off the side as a tie belt then a neck hole in the middle (mis measured, cut the neck hole too big and so its more of an 'off the shoulder' number but safety pins came to the rescue!) This tunic thingy to be worn over PE kit which hopefully wont be visible and I plan to use some brown eye shadow liberally applied as 'dirt' ..................and breeeeaathe!

This set me thinking....has anyone else risen to the challenge of a 'fancy dress' and, if so, what was it and how did you do it?

Yes we did and you would be amazed at how versatile a hessian farm sack is  I think it covered stone age, and saxon / viking too.

I remember we had to be a bit more elaborate for victorian, the hessian sack didn't cut the mustard for that and we had to order a waistcoat from eBay.

BTW don't you just love how schools give you notice, are teachers not trained in planning? My son came home last week with a note about a proposed ski trip, which had never been mentioned previously. Cost £1000 and you had to sign up on thursday with a £200 deposit by the end of the month.

Talking of the communication skills .... we had a note on Friday to say that Stone Age Day is now tomorrow not Wednesday! At least, for once, I am organised but my lift share partner is still waiting on the postman!!!

CatieB....Note to self; get hessian sack, just in case

Oh yes got DVD and T shirt. We were asked to get brown woolly tights in summer. My son was the only 2 tone camel. My other son refused to wear tights and said it was girly and he wasnt a girl. I left it to the teaching assistant to sort out. She was a buxom woman with a heart of gold and a steely look who took no nonsense from my wailing offspring  Face paint made my sons eczema worse. I do miss all this and look forward to it when I am a a gran one day. But need a rest first.
