Chicken bald back

I have a new flock of 6 hens and an eglu cube attached to a walk in run. They arrived yesterday and are lovely, but are not putting themselves to roost in the cube at night. I manage to shut them into the cube run, but then they go right under the cube when I try to catch them to put them in. I am worried that they are not going to learn to do this. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Can anyone offer advice please? Thanks!

Mine did exactly that. I put a perch across in front of the Cube door and the girls went up in that and then hopped across into the house. In fact that's what they still do. But I guess that only works because I know my girls like to go up on a perch.

Thanks, will try that. Is the perch at the top or the bottom of the ladder please?

Mine is level with the top of the ladder. You could always put one lower down as well if you think they might not do the whole thing in one go.

The ladder can put some hens off. Mine have an upturned washing up bowl as an extra step on the ground at the bottom, which helps

If they don't go in - wait until it's dark then go and pick them up and put them in the cube - they usually get the hang of it from there on
