KeithT
I am becoming worried about my lovely Black Rock. Now 10 1/2yrs old she began to moult a couple of weeks ago but has become more and more listless and not showing interest in any food, even grapes or strawberries. No longer does she run to greet me and follow me along the run. Currently, she is just sitting in the nesting box. I can see nothing physically wrong with her. I fear that she is just fading away
Beantree
10 ½ years old is a remarkable age for any chicken, let alone a hybrid. All our Blackrocks had gone 8 years younger. They all developed peritonitis and this may be the problem KeithT? Check her abdomen for swelling; it should be soft at the back, not firm. If that's OK check for sour crop, so her crop should be medium consistency during the day and empty in the morning. Could be a combination of these things, so swollen abdomen restricting the digestive system leading to sour crop because of slow digestive transit. The Dogmother
Hmm, sounds as if you've given her a bit of a health check already. She's a good age, and i would just pop a good quality poultry tonic in their water, give her some Nutri-drops and make her comfy. I had one recently who was just fading with nowt specific; we made her a 'nest' in an old washing up bowl, popped her in the flower beds with her mates in the day, brought her in at night and she finally went with all the flock around her.
