Luvachicken
When I cleaned out the girls today, I found blood in the egg port. I was quite shocked the blood had gone to the bottom of the aubiose. I assumed one of the girls had tried to lay an egg or perhaps one of their lady bits had fallen out. I went straight to the run to see Gemma with one foot covered in blood on the top. I checked her foot and it was fine. I followed the blood up to her chest - that was also fine. So I followed the blood further up to find 2 broken feathers on Gemma's wing. I washed all of the blood off from the various places and managed to stop the bleeding. I popped her indoors so she could dry off and she seems perfectly fine. She is back with the others now. The problem I have is that I don't know how she did it. There is nothing sharp to catch on. Could one of the others have pecked her so hard that they caused the injury ? I'm really hoping that's not the case
mullethunter
That is very strange. Doesn’t really sound like a peck injury - they don’t tend to go for the wing area do they? I’m trying to think if there’s anywhere she could have got them trapped and broken them off pulling them out? I’ve heard of pekin foot feathers getting broken and bleeding but never seen or heard of it happening to other feathers. At least it stopped bleeding. Luvachicken
The younger ones did pull Polly by the wing one day, really yanking her I was thinking that maybe Gemma was chased inside the cube, while the door was still shut and fluttered against the divider causing the feathers to break, although I couldn't find blood anywhere else, just on the aubiose.
