Moggie2103
Hi,I hope somebody can help and give some advice please.I'm new with broody hens and don't now if I do the right thing.Last night I moved my broody hen to a safer place and put 12 fertile eggs under her. This morning I found her next to the nest with 7 eggs under her and 5 abandoned. Is my hen selective, can't she sit only on 7 eggs or can she tell on first day that this eggs are bad ones.?Shall I put the 5 eggs under her again,or take them out? xAndrea
Patricia W
It may be that 12 are too many for her. What breed is she?
mullethunter
I gave my broody 12 fertile eggs to sit on and she kicked 3 out on the first night - I think 12 was too many. I guess it depends on the individual.
Moggie2103
Thank you Patrica W and Mullethunter, you might be right,It looked a lot of eggs to me as well. My hen is a black french marans,it's her first time she is broody. When I looked this morning she has kicked two more eggs out. Now she sits only on 5. Hope she doesn't kick any more out. xAndrea
