Naming Chickens Issue - Silly question but needs thought

Recommended Posts

Our chickens are arriving on 26th, but as we've got two children (4 & 2) the subject of names has already been settled. We've gone for characters the kids know:

Dora - as in 'the Explorer' - which is fine.

AND

Spiderman! - my son is adamant, even though we've told him it will be a girl. Oh well, I hope she grows up well-adjusted regardless...

What imaginative names everyone has! I waited till I'd met mine until choosing their names - it seems important to me. Though we ended up choosing rather dull names Sandie because she is that colour, Scarlett because she is dark red and Henrietta because it suited her. I wanted to call one Tina but OH vetoed it, and he wanted to call them after dead female relatives, but I felt certain living relatives wouldn't approve of having a chicken named after their nerest and dearest, even though in our book it would have been a fitting tribute!!

I'm a bit worried. the hen we called after my Mum (Liz) has turned out to be the bully that feather pecks and who I've had to put in solitary pending the arrival of the bumper bits

Now, how am I going to put this to Mum ?

"Mum, would you like a glass of wine.......... we are so pleased that this chook is called Liz................a small top up of wine.............She is such a strong independent chook, who is not afraid to stand up for her rights......... would you like a third glass of wine?"

Now that sounds like a really good way to approach it ......

Thanks
