Jules.
I feed my girls sweetcorn, melon seeds, grapes etc for treats, but I wanted to give them something that would occupy them for a while, something they have to work at to get. I bought them a big (& I mean big!) sack of mixed/cracked corn when I bought them their layers pellets- but they won't touch it. I gave it to my dad to use to feed the wild birds in his garden, & they won't touch it too The only birds that will eat it are the geese which live in the orchard behind him. any ideas? moochoo
If you're ok with live things then live maggots kept my girls busy for ages. Hubby had a spare half pint of whities so we thought we'd see if they liked them. We sprinkled them in the grass for them to forage for, they had a great time! Shirl
Dried mealworms are the same principal but they won't escape
Snowy
Mine have a treat every morning - a scoop of organic mixed corn with a handful of dried mealworms mixed in. I scatter it in their run and they spend ages scratching about to get it all.
Shelly Eggs
Hi there We got dried mealworms for ours (I'm a bit squeamish & didn't like the idea of feeding them live worms/ maggots). They absolutely adore them and as you say makes them work a bit harder for their food rather than hand feeding them spinach leaves which they adore too. Hope this helps and hope they like them!
