foreveryoung
I put the mother hen and chick into the cube last nite and all was fine, let them out this morning and all hell broke loose ! I had to take my kids to school so had to put them back in the run away from the others! all 4 of them chased lucky (the chick) around the run to the point where she hid behind me. what do I do she's 8 weeks old and I was told that they should be ok to be put together?? should i leave it a bit longer and try again?? chelsea
I would seperate them. mine are 13 weeks and I dont confine them with the big girls. they only free range together.
bronze
definitely seperate them. I tried mine together when they were a lot older and all hell broke loose. I tried again a week later and after some bickering theyre best of friends.
feemcg
I've put my chicks in with the big girls from about 12-14 weeks. At 1st they're out in the garden together during the day but separate at night, then after a week or so, all in together. They still get the odd peck when they're at the feeders, and the 17 week old Marans don't bother coming when I throw apples, lettuce etc. - they must figure its not worth the hassle . I would have thought the chick's mum might have protected her a bit, but at 8 weeks she might be losing interest.
