Lara Sinclair
Hi, we set up our eglu cube and run and have brought 3 chooks home (14 weeks old). Just trying to understand if we need to add any bedding material inside the area where they sleep? Or just the tray and the other insert? FYI: We are keeping the laying area closed at the moment as they are still a few weeks off laying.
mullethunter
Welcome to the forum and I hope you’re enjoying your new girls. Sorry for the slow replies - sometimes first time posts seem slow to appear. I don’t bother putting anything in there - they perch on the bars and I find it easier to clean out with nothing underneath.
chookinalong
You have the right idea by keeping the nest box door closed until your chooks are laying. I did exactly the same and although I never close the door now, my girls never sleep in the nest box. It will be a tad more problematical when the time comes to replace some of my flock.
