chickenlover
ok bear with me this is a bit confusing. i had 5 chicken from 1 week old, as far as i was concerned 4 polish 3 hens and i cockral and 1 silkie hen. I rehomed my polish cockral yesterday because of a moany neighbour (it got a bit much at the weekend when my husband was having a face off with her husband) we sent him to a lovely new home where i can visit if i want.....all was well this morning when i got up, i was making the kids breakfast when i heard crowing, automatically i thought 'be quiet' so used to the polish cock crowing away all morning, when it dawned on me that he had gone, so i ran over to the window pulled open the curtains and saw my silkie 'hen' crowing away to her hearts content!! Id always wondered about her because id heard that silkies were suppose to be tame and freindly, and well she just wasnt... the polish was oviosly top dog and now hes gone 'she' is taking over. I feel extreamly stupid and now i have the problem of rehoming him too
Egluntyne
It is easily done I'm sure. A bit of a dilemma for you.
Jools
Don't be toooo hasty - "she" could still be a girl. I have a hen who adopts the role of "crower" when there isn't a cockerel around to do the job. I hope that's what your's is doing!
chickenlover
oh really!! i had done some research and it definatly looks more like a her instead of a he, and when i crows its not like my last cockral, his was very strong and loud where as this ones more shrilly. i wish i could post a picture , ive tried but i just cant do. Aunty e
My silkie is extremely noisy when laying an egg, so much so that my lodger thought it was a cockerel, and wouldn't believe it wasn't until I pointed out I had culled them all the day before. Maybe it is a girl....
